Dora Štědroňová

Artistic Director of the Na zábradlí Theatre since the 2013/2014 season.

As of September 2013, she has served as artistic director of the Na zábradlí Theatre, where she contributes to the theatre’s artistic direction and dramaturgical vision. For many years, she has collaborated on authorial and stage projects that combine dramatic literature, documentary materials, and theatrical adaptations. She is the co-author or author of the dramatizations for numerous productions and, as a dramaturge, contributes to the current repertoire of the Na zábradlí Theatre.

Since 2005, she has been a member of the dramaturgical council of the Divadlo International Theatre Festival in Pilsen. She has long been engaged in dramaturgical, creative, and conceptual work on the Czech theatre scene and has also worked closely with Czech Radio and Czech Television.

Before joining the Na zábradlí Theatre, she served as dramaturge and assistant artistic director at the Reduta Theatre in Brno from 2007 to 2013. From 2005 to 2007, she was a dramaturge for the Mahen Dramatic Theatre Company at the National Theatre Brno, where she contributed to numerous productions and dramaturgical projects.

Another significant part of her professional career has been her work as an educator. She has taught at JAMU, the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University, and DAMU; she currently teaches at the Department of Dramatic Theatre at DAMU.

She graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University in Brno and completed her doctoral studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology.

The Na zábradlí Theatre and Me
The Na zábradlí Theatre, though small in size, plays a significant role in shaping our cultural history. We strive to remain focused on artistic expression, which can then (and hopefully will) extend into a broader context. Zábradlí is a remarkable and unique space with a special atmosphere, driven by the ambition to put on great productions in a small venue. That’s why, ever since my first visit, I’ve had the feeling that this is something truly special. As if one were experiencing something truly one-of-a-kind.

I value our entire team’s collaboration, our acting ensemble, and the synergy with the directors. I especially take joy in our successes outside the Czech context, as reflected in the many invitations to perform on international stages. I’m delighted by the dedication and openness of the acting ensemble, which often faces a range of challenges. It’s a joy to be part of such a close-knit environment, where everyone plays a significant role in our collective success.
