The DIY centre. A place where people go before attempting to fulfil their construction dreams, where one develops a relationship with nature, where one becomes a handyman. But also a place of inventive thieves, frustrated customers, endless queues at the checkout, inventive thieves, and hostile complaints.
Anna Davidová’s production is loosely based on the debut book of the same name by Mikuláš Křepelka, who, in the form of diary entries, captures with audacity and provocation the everyday reality of managing a DIY centre, a position he himself held for many years. In the stage adaptation Bunglers, the large-scale retail store is staged as a portrait of today’s divided society, a place where it is easy to lose oneself not only among the aisles but also within oneself.
